Chapter 6 The Mandukya, Taittiriya and Chandogya Upanishads 6.1 The Mandukya Upanishad The Upanishad is named after the sage Mandukya who taught about the four states of consciousness, namely, waking, dreaming, deep sleep and fourth, known as turiya, which is the highest. The three states and the fourth are explained through the mystic syllable Om.
This Shanti Mantra or Peace Invocation comes from the Chandogya Upanishad. It is also found in Kena Upanishad. The Upanishads contain knowledge about
